The Department of Medical Imaging has been established

At its December 2019 meeting, the Faculty Council approved the establishment of the Department of Medical Imaging, initiated by the leadership of the Clinical Center last October. The new department was established by the merger of the Department of Radiology and the Department of Nuclear Medicine. The Faculty Council also approved the establishment of the Nuclear Medicine non-independent Department at the Department of Medical Imaging.

The emergence of new hybrid methods (SPECT / CT, PET / CT, PET / MR) has led to examinations that require the knowledge of both nuclear medicine and radiology. The two clinics have been working in close collaboration for years, and their merger strengthens their joint work and favours the supply of specialist doctors. Their aim is to train colleagues who have two specialized exams in both units.

In its method, nuclear medicine differs significantly from radiological examinations, requires different knowledge and other type of work organization, therefore it is desirable for its further operation to continue its professional activity independently within the Department of Medical Imaging, as a non-independent Department of Nuclear Medicine.
